Ready, steady, LETTUCE!

27 May

I planted mixed lettuce seeds late April outdoors and now I have a lovely crop of fresh leaves for salads and sandwiches.  The husband also gives the thumbs up!  Just cut and washed a crop this morning and now mixing it with some rocket.

Saturday last, I went along to the local council plant house sale to see what all the fuss was about and was very surprised!

I bought three different types of grasses, a couple of alpine plants and others I need to quiz my Mum about!

Hanging with it!

21 May

Yesterday was fairly jam packed full of action.  From putting up curtains for the brother in law to doing four loads of laundry.  It was all chores though.  I popped into my local garden centre, Pentland Plants and bought two hanging baskets, compost, plant feed and plants.  With that I also bought six sweetcorn plants … can’t wait for that corn on the cob moment.

Here are the hanging baskets, what do you think?

Hanging Baskets

extra!

16 May

You may go “extra what?”

I simply refer to watering my greens with feed after getting home from work today.

A couple of days ago I went to the local pets store and bought some straw for the strawberries to mulch them down.  haven’t yet managed to get the straw out of the car and onto the strawberry patch … oooops!

Needless to say still yet to decide on the hanging baskets … not sure on what colours to choose as there is too much choice!!

The sweetpeas all got tied to supports as the are really growing …. wooot wooooot!!  The broad beans and peas in recent days have also shot up.  And I am pleased to say after worrying about re-potting some of my herbs, I can proudly say they have settled in their new pots ….. whew!!

I have several things I aim to do at some point this week apart from painting the new bathroom.  The courgette plants need to go into bigger pots/containers to grow on.  I need to thin out the basil and other herb seedlings.  The dilemma of the hanging baskets continue!!  But will defo use moss for the sheet between the basket and the soil.  Sowing some more seeds will go down a treat too, esp aubergines, carrots and white lady beans.  This will all co-a-line other chores!!

Will post more photos in the next couple of days!

Cheers for reading xx

Sweeeeet!

14 May

On Wednesday, I planted the sweet peas into bigger containers.  Have also re-potted some of the herbs which have over grown in the herb containers.

Yesterday i purchased two pots and lavenders and have placed them at my front door.  Hanging baskets are in my thought process as I’m quite keen on adding some colour to the front of the house and not just the back.

Urghhh it’s Raining!

Can’t get out to plant some more seeds. Was planning to sow a couple more aubergines as one of the two I planted hasn’t germinated. Also have some flower seeds I wish to start. Will wait until it’s a little dryer, maybe tomorrow?

Rocketing …

11 May

Just been in the garden and the rocket I planted is growing fast!

In the herb containers, the chicory, curry plant and parsley are rapidly taking over … time to re-pot them i think.

Tomorrow I shall be hunting down some containers to use for the sweet peas and herbs.

I’ll be using some of that rocket in a sandwich … yum yum!
